Sr. Android Engineer, CNBC

Location: Hybrid role based at CNBC Headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Salary: $155,000–$175,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain native Android applications for smartphones and tablets.
• Build user-focused mobile features with an emphasis on performance, usability, stability, and video streaming.
• Integrate HLS, DASH, CMAF, media playback, and DRM across a range of Android devices.
• Optimize app performance, memory usage, network efficiency, and production reliability.
• Collaborate with product, design, video, backend, and platform teams on feature delivery and technical decisions.
• Maintain code quality through testing, automation, peer reviews, debugging, and performance profiling.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional Android development experience.
• Deep knowledge of Kotlin, Java, Jetpack libraries, Android lifecycle, memory management, and asynchronous programming with Kotlin Coroutines or RxJava.
• Experience with MVVM, Clean Architecture, Jetpack Compose, responsive design, and mobile UI/UX principles.
• Hands-on experience with Android video streaming, including HLS, DASH, CMAF, media playback, and DRM.
• Familiarity with REST and GraphQL APIs, dependency injection frameworks, CI/CD, testing frameworks, and crash analytics tools.
• Comfort working in an agile environment and participating in sprint planning, retrospectives, and code reviews.

Nice to have

• Experience with consumer-facing, media, publishing, or news applications.
• Knowledge of accessibility, localization, device fragmentation, app analytics, and A/B testing.
• Familiarity with AWS or Firebase.
• Android certification.
