Team Lead - Protection & Controls (Utility Substations)

Location: Remote or local/in-office in Lakewood, Colorado; applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. Some field work and 10–15% travel may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year, based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

• Lead detailed protection and control design for utility substation projects, including one-line and three-line diagrams, relay and control schematics, wiring, SCADA, communications, grounding, equipment selection, and cable routing.
• Coordinate power system models and studies covering short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonics, and related analyses.
• Manage assignments and review the work of engineers, designers, drafters, technicians, and field service personnel for quality and accuracy.
• Develop team members through mentoring, coaching, and individualized development plans.
• Support proposals, business development, budgets, scope management, change orders, client communication, and technical submittal reviews.
• Provide field assistance, troubleshooting, observation reports, and guidance on applicable codes, standards, and construction practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution; an electric power focus is preferred.
• At least 8 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
• FE certification is required; PE licensure is preferred.
• Experience with distribution voltages above 240 kV, switchgear, motor control centers, and industrial instrumentation and controls.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and power system software such as DIgSILENT/PowerFactory, EasyPower, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, or CYMCAP.
• Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. Strong command of English and effective interpersonal and people-management skills are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with HB substations for data centers.
• PE license and familiarity with additional power system analysis tools.
