Team Lead (Physical Engineering - Utility Substations)

Location: Remote within the United States or in-office in Lakewood, Colorado. Some field work and 10–15% travel are required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead engineers, drafters, and designers delivering detailed physical and structural substation engineering packages.
• Oversee physical design for generating plants, utility transmission and distribution systems, and industrial and commercial facilities.
• Coordinate project planning, schedules, budgets, workload forecasting, multidisciplinary design activities, and project risks.
• Review engineering work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with client and company standards.
• Resolve technical issues, prepare estimates and project reports, and support proposals, business development, and client relationships.
• Mentor, coach, and develop team members while reinforcing internal processes and QA/QC requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• At least 5 years of engineering or relevant field experience.
• FE licensure is required; PE licensure and the ability to stamp drawings are highly preferred.
• Expertise in physical substation design, including electrical clearances, one-line and three-line diagrams, layouts, sections, elevations, bus configurations, control buildings, and equipment selection.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite, plus knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and applicable local regulations.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, decision-making, mentoring, and team leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with structural substation engineering, steel design, reinforced concrete design, and foundations.
• PE licensure and experience stamping drawings.
