Senior Python Backend Engineer (Python/AWS): Architecting scalable backend services, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure for the BX clinical research platform with an accent on Python, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and cloud-to-cloud integrations. Focus on designing reliable and secure production systems, optimizing clinical-grade data services, and mentoring backend engineers.

What you will do
- Lead the design and development of Python backend services and REST APIs using AWS and the Pyramid framework.
- Architect PostgreSQL schemas, queries, stored procedures, and performance optimizations for clinical-grade data.
- Build and manage AWS infrastructure using EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, IAM, and cloud-to-cloud integrations.
- Define coding standards, API design patterns, security practices, and testing strategies.
- Mentor backend engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive engineering excellence.
- Communicate technical recommendations to client stakeholders and independently drive delivery from concept to deployment.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience with Python, JavaScript, SQL, REST APIs, Docker, and advanced PostgreSQL.
- Experience with AWS, including Kubernetes/EKS and Lambda; familiarity with API Gateway, RDS, S3, IAM, and cloud integrations.
- Knowledge of OAuth 2, SOLID principles, object-oriented programming, clean architecture, and OWASP security practices.
- Experience delivering reliable, observable, and secure production systems, including unit and integration testing or TDD.
- English proficiency required.
- Experience with agile development, mentoring, code reviews, and engineering standards.
Nice to have
- Experience with clinical or healthcare data systems, including HL7, FHIR, GxP, or 21 CFR Part 11.
- Knowledge of microservices, serverless architecture, container orchestration, and modern CI/CD tooling.
- Experience with Pyramid, TypeScript, Snowflake, SQLAlchemy, or VS Code.
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including 2+ years in a lead or technical lead role.
