TL;DR

People Business Partner (HR): Serving as a trusted HR advisor to leaders and employees with an accent on employee relations and employment law compliance. Focus on guiding managers through complex people situations, leading workplace investigations, and leveraging AI tools to streamline HR operations.

Location: Remote. Strong knowledge of Canadian and US employment law required

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 USD for US residents / $100,000 - $120,000 CAD for Canadian residents

What you will do

  • Act as the primary SME for all employee relations matters, including conducting sensitive workplace investigations.
  • Manage end-to-end terminations, drafting legal documentation and calculating entitlements.
  • Administer medical, parental, and disability leaves of absence under US and Canadian legislation.
  • Support organizational design, workforce restructuring, and change management initiatives.
  • Implement AI-augmented workflows using tools like Claude to automate reporting and documentation.
  • Analyze workforce data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of progressive HR Business Partner experience with depth in employee relations.
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian (BC, Ontario) and US federal/state employment laws (FLSA, ADA, FMLA).
  • Proven ability to manage complex ER cases, investigations, and performance improvement plans (PIPs).
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) to accelerate HR workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel for formula-based report building.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management or a related field (preferred).

Nice to have

  • Experience with M&A support planning.
  • CPHR and/or SHRM certification.
