Structural / Calculation Engineer (Heavy Lifting & Hoisting Equipment)

Location: Office-based in the Porto region, Portugal; engineering collaboration with customers and teams in the Netherlands.

Salary: €2,000–€2,750 per month.

What you will do

• Perform structural analysis, strength calculations, and structural verification for complex lifting systems.
• Work on cranes, hoisting systems, offshore and marine equipment, and heavy machinery.
• Analyze loads, forces, moments, stresses, deflection, and mechanical behaviour.
• Review technical drawings, 3D models, calculation reports, and engineering specifications.
• Contribute to safe, strong, and reliable equipment for offshore, marine, wind energy, and heavy-industry applications.
• Collaborate with an international engineering team and Dutch customers.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, Calculation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or in a similar role.
• Technical background in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or Offshore Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with structural calculations, strength of materials, steel structures, welded constructions, bolted connections, or heavy machinery.
• Experience with calculation tools or FEA software and the ability to read technical drawings and 3D models.
• Good communication skills in English required.
• Structured, accurate, analytical, and independent approach with the ability to work in an international project team.

Nice to have

• Experience with offshore, marine, cranes, hoisting systems, boom structures, pedestals, A-frames, winches, lifting tools, or large steel structures.
• Knowledge of crane, offshore equipment, steel-structure, or welding standards and guidelines.
• Experience with ANSYS, FEMAP, Abaqus, RFEM, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar FEA tools.
• Knowledge of fatigue, buckling, dynamic loading, offshore load cases, class approval, or client specifications.
• Interest in AI, automation tools, digital engineering workflows, or calculation automation.
