Staff Backend Engineer (Node.js, TypeScript): Build autonomous restaurant operations software and mission-critical backend systems that power ordering, fulfillment, menu syncs, POS integrations, and operational automations with an accent on scale, reliability, and workflow orchestration. Focus on designing high-throughput systems, integrating real-time data loops, and enabling AI-agent style automation to reduce support tickets and churn.
Location: Remote — can be based anywhere in the United States and Canada
Salary: $220K–$240K base salary range (plus pre-IPO equity)

What you will do
- Build autonomous restaurant operations backend systems that detect issues across fragmented services and automate decisions at scale.
- Own end-to-end backend workflows spanning ordering, kitchens, delivery, and fulfillment.
- Develop and operate high-throughput, reliable services that directly impact guest experience, restaurant revenue, and reputation.
- Design new interaction models between operators and software for day-to-day restaurant operations.
- Implement workflow orchestration and automation systems, including AI-agent style automation.
Requirements
- 7+ years building end-to-end systems and product experiences.
- Strong experience building high-throughput backend systems with a focus on reliability and scalability.
- Experience with the backend stack: Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreSQL.
- Experience building workflow orchestration, automation systems, or AI agents.
- High degree of cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and business partners.
- Strong ownership, communication, and proactive problem-solving.
