Senior Full-Stack/Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote-optional outside the Bay Area; candidates in the Bay Area are expected to work in the San Francisco office 5 days per week. Relocation to the Bay Area is supported.

Salary: $220,000–$285,000 per year, plus equity, bonuses, and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Own the architecture of major subsystems, including integrations, synchronization engines, and AI product infrastructure.
• Build agents that read, reconcile, and act on invoices, change orders, pay applications, and budgets.
• Design generic data models, APIs, authentication, account-linking flows, filters, and pagination across many customer systems.
• Connect secure and reliable integrations to SQL-, DLL-, API-, and other on-premise systems, including real-time communication and webhooks.
• Build caching and data-access layers for products handling millions of API requests per day.
• Set engineering patterns through design reviews, documentation, tooling, pairing, and mentoring.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience.
• Experience designing and owning large-scale systems from initial architecture through long-term production use.
• Deep production experience with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS, and distributed systems involving caching, queuing, and data consistency.
• Ability to debug database performance, memory, concurrency, and third-party API issues end to end.
• Comfort working across the full stack and learning unfamiliar or legacy SQL- and DLL-based systems.
• Bay Area candidates must work in person in San Francisco 5 days per week; remote work is available for candidates outside the Bay Area.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI agents, evaluation systems, deterministic data pipelines, or tools over internal APIs.
• Experience with TypeScript, React, Redis, Postgres, AWS CDK, and EC2.

Hiring process

• Introductory 15-minute conversation about previous projects and the role.
• Customer-needs problem and coding interview, each lasting 50 minutes.
• Five one-on-one, 60-minute on-site interviews with the co-founders and lead developer in San Francisco; travel is paid.
