Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: London, UK; hybrid working

Salary: £110,000–£170,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own architecture and technical design across the customer-facing web application, agentic platform, and shared infrastructure.
• Design parent and specialist agents, durable workflows, MCP-based tooling, and evaluation infrastructure.
• Lead technical decisions through implementation, code reviews, and design reviews.
• Build systems that remain durable, consistent, observable, and cost-effective under load and failure.
• Work hands-on as an individual contributor while shaping technical direction and engineering standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience and a track record of technical leadership during platform shifts.
• Strong system design experience covering multi-service orchestration, data platforms, performance, cost at scale, observability, and operations.
• Senior-level TypeScript and Node.js experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, GraphQL or HTTP APIs, GCP infrastructure, and distributed monorepos with multiple deployable services.
• Ability to ship quickly under product pressure while maintaining code quality and reliability.

Nice to have

• Production experience with agentic systems, tool calling, multi-step orchestration, or LLM evaluations.
• Experience with workflow engines such as Temporal, Cadence, or Step Functions.
• Experience with MCP, Anthropic SDK, LLM platforms, developer platforms, internal SDKs, or evaluation-driven development.
• React or another modern frontend framework.
