People Partner (AI)

TL;DR

People Partner (AI/HR): Managing the people function and operations for a generative AI research lab with an accent on performance management, organizational design, and leadership coaching for technical teams. Focus on scaling people processes, ensuring compliance with German employment law, and building leadership capability within a high-growth research environment.

Location: Hybrid in Freiburg, Germany (Required to be in the office at least 2 days a week or work remotely with a mandatory monthly in-person week).

Salary: €100,000 - €130,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Act as the primary People Partner for EU-based managers and employees, focusing on performance and team effectiveness.
• Coach and develop managers to build leadership capability as the organization scales.
• Drive compensation strategy inputs and manage employee lifecycle events, including promotions and performance cycles.
• Lead EU employee relations and ensure alignment with German employment law.
• Standardize and scale People Operations in Europe using data, tooling, and AI to eliminate inefficiencies.
• Execute the People roadmap from design through to final delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in People, Operations, Consulting, or Programme Management.
• Proven experience working within the tech industry (deep tech, AI, infrastructure, or fintech).
• Startup or scale-up experience with a track record of building new processes.
• Fluency in both German and English is required.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Nice to have

• Formal HR or coaching qualifications.
• Experience as a founding or lead People hire in an early-stage environment.
• Deep working knowledge of German employment law.
• Experience managing cross-border or multi-entity employment within Europe.
