Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; on-site

Base salary: $150,000–$175,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Design opto-mechanical subsystems for laser distribution, high-numerical-aperture microscope imaging, and optical cavities.
• Develop ultra-high-vacuum chambers, vacuum system housings, and mechanical couplings to optical systems.
• Own complex technical projects from concept through delivery.
• Create component- and system-level designs, specifications, and recommendations balancing competing requirements.
• Perform stability, thermal, tolerance, and first-order analyses to evaluate design solutions.
• Support hands-on assembly, alignment, testing, and integration of finalized designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5–8+ years of opto-mechanical design experience.
• Hands-on experience with optics and opto-mechanical best practices.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, or equivalent design and data-management software, plus FEA including meshing, modal analysis, and thermal analysis.
• Knowledge of adhesives in optical environments, DFMA, tolerancing, ASME Y14.5M, and ISO 10110.
• Experience with first-order optics, aberration theory, precision mechanisms, kinematic systems, mentoring, technical reviews, and complex project ownership; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
