Senior Laser Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; on-site

Salary: $150,000–$175,000 per year, plus annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Own the alignment, tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization of diode, fiber laser, amplifier, and nonlinear optical systems.
• Design and characterize laser and nonlinear optical systems for new hardware builds and upgrades, including phase-locking.
• Lead technical projects end-to-end by gathering requirements, creating action plans, and managing priorities and schedules.
• Analyze optical test data through plotting, fitting, and interpretation to guide design and troubleshooting.
• Set documentation and technical-writing standards, review engineering work, and collaborate with physicists and hardware and software engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in physics, optics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience using, maintaining, and independently developing optical, opto-mechanical, and/or laser systems.
• Mastery in at least one laser or optics domain, such as diode and fiber lasers, amplifiers, nonlinear optical systems, or phase-locking.
• Experience independently leading laser or optical projects from requirements through completion and designing or modeling nonlinear optical or laser amplifier systems.
• Strong data analysis skills and experience with engineering documentation, including change orders, assembly drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Excellent communication skills for setting documentation standards across a cross-functional team.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior engineers.
• Proficiency with Python and Git.
• Proficiency with Zemax, Onshape, and/or SolidWorks/CAD.
• Advanced degree in a relevant field.
