Senior Mechanical Engineer - Instrumentation Hardware (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Design enclosures, heat sinks, shields, chassis, front panels, and cabling for 19-inch rack-mount and pluggable instrumentation products.
• Create and maintain detailed CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Perform thermal, airflow, structural, and applicable EMI/EMC analysis and validation.
• Design sheet-metal, extruded, machined, and rapidly prototyped components.
• Integrate PCBs, power supplies, connectors, and wiring while balancing mechanical, thermal, and electrical constraints.
• Support design reviews, prototyping, testing, manufacturing transfer, supplier coordination, and production support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience.
• Proficiency with CAD and simulation tools; SolidWorks and Ansys are preferred.
• Experience designing PCB fixtures, supports, heat sinks, shields, connectors, and multi-board assemblies.
• Strong knowledge of electronics thermal management, heat-sink design, airflow/CFD analysis, and component-level cooling.
• Experience with mechanical drawings, ASME Y14.5M GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, sheet-metal fabrication, and cable or harness design.
• Ability to develop manufacturable, production-ready packaging for sensitive systems and collaborate with electrical and systems engineers.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with MicroTCA, PXI, VPX, FMC, or similar modular instrumentation standards.
• Experience with RF shielding, EMI/EMC design, electronics test fixtures, or precision instrumentation.
• Experience supporting product sustainment and value engineering after release.
• Familiarity with PLM and PDM tools.
