Senior Systems Engineer (Cloudflare Data Platform)

Location: In-office in Austin, Texas; Seattle, Washington; or London, UK

Salary: $185,000–$254,000 annual salary for eligible hires in New York City, New Jersey, Washington, Washington DC, and California excluding the Bay Area.

What you will do

• Build and release software for hirify.global storage and database products across the software stack.
• Extend engineering work on R2 Data Catalog, including Iceberg metadata management and compaction.
• Develop R2 SQL, an in-house distributed SQL engine for petabyte-scale queries over R2 data.
• Architect globally distributed data consistency models and optimize storage engine performance.
• Design APIs and data-centric products based on developer needs and hirify.global’s global network.
• Debug distributed systems, identify failure modes, and improve service reliability and performance.

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience with distributed systems.
• Experience building and managing high-volume software applications.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design.
• Knowledge of at least one modern strongly typed language, particularly Rust, TypeScript, or Go.
• Experience debugging, optimizing, and identifying failure modes in large-scale distributed systems.
• Availability for in-office work in Austin, Seattle, or London.

Nice to have

• Experience building and managing large-scale data storage platforms.
• Experience in low-latency real-time environments such as game streaming, game engines, high-frequency trading, or payment systems.
• Experience with non-garbage-collected languages such as Rust or C++.
• JavaScript and TypeScript experience.
• Deep Linux and UNIX systems knowledge.
