What you will do
- Oversee day-to-day operations of a high-mix, low-rate prototype shop producing structural components and weldments.
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of fabricators and welders.
- Manage the assembly, integration, and commissioning of custom mechanical test equipment like dynamometers and structural rigs.
- Serve as the primary manufacturing voice in design reviews to provide early-stage DFM feedback.
- Ensure shop safety compliance and maintain audit-ready build records in support of AS9100 standards.
- Own job prioritization, capacity planning, and throughput to meet aggressive program schedules.
Requirements
- Must be based in San Jose, California
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or mechanical assembly within aerospace, defense, or automotive sectors.
- Proven track record of managing technicians and fabricators through complex mechanical builds.
- Strong background in sheet metal fabrication and structural welding (MIG/TIG).
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T callouts.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
Nice to have
- Experience with plumbing, wiring harness installation, and sensor integration.
- Background working within AS9100 or FAA-regulated environments.
- Experience programming CNC press brakes or using nesting software.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP/MRP systems.
- Experience supporting eVTOL or advanced air mobility programs.
