Distribution Field Technician

Location: Grand Rapids or Petoskey, Michigan; primarily outdoor field work with occasional office work.

Salary: $24–$27 per hour.

What you will do

• Map and inventory overhead and underground electrical distribution systems to support design, rebuilds, and upgrades.
• Identify electrical system and safety issues, including issues related to storm and technical outages.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings between clients and construction contractors.
• Perform construction inspections and spot checks against design and safety standards.
• Conduct post-construction inspections to support as-builts and reliable electricity distribution.
• Complete field reports, safety analyses, field notes, monitoring records, chain-of-custody forms, and other documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completed lineman apprenticeship program and Department of Labor Journeyman certificate.
• 2–5 years of experience with electric overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Technical knowledge of transformers, insulators, switches, conductors, elbows, tees, and related electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and electrical plans, carry up to 50 lbs. without accommodation, and follow safety and regulatory requirements.
• Valid driver's license and strong written and verbal communication skills required.
