Senior Counsel - Product (AI)

Location: London, UK; hybrid schedule with two days per week in the Aldgate office

What you will do

• Embed with product and engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through launch and iteration.
• Act as the central legal contact for product matters and coordinate privacy, intellectual property, regulatory, and commercial specialists.
• Identify legal risks early and advise on privacy, data flows, consent, international transfers, telecom, AI, accessibility, export control, and localisation requirements.
• Support patent, trademark, open-source, technology partner, end-user terms, SLA, service description, marketing, and product launch matters.
• Advise on product misuse, disclaimers, AI transparency, and compliant product development.
• Create playbooks, training materials, approval frameworks, and AI-assisted workflows that help teams handle routine legal requirements independently.

Requirements

• Law degree from a nationally recognised law school and a current practising certificate.
• At least 5 years PQE and at least 3 years of in-house product counsel experience, or substantially equivalent experience, at a SaaS, cloud, or technology company.
• Experience working closely with product and engineering teams and enabling compliant product launches.
• Ability to operate as a product legal generalist while involving specialist counsel when needed.
• Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, problem-solving, commercial judgement, independence, and attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI tools to automate legal analysis, accelerate document review, or build AI-assisted workflows.
• Experience in technology or cloud communications, including AI/ML products, generative AI, or automated decision-making.
• Familiarity with intellectual property, data protection, reseller and distribution relationships, SaaS RFP/RFI responses, and US Revenue Recognition principles.
• Experience working for a US-based multinational company with a strong UK presence.
