Substation Technician

TL;DR

Substation Technician (Wind): Support day-to-day operations of a wind site by monitoring and maintaining wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components and sub-station activities with an accent on safe, high-availability troubleshooting and repair quality. Focus on diagnosing complex mechanical/electrical issues, performing balance of plant and switchyard maintenance, and ensuring crews document work and follow electrical schematics and LOTO procedures.

What you will do

• Monitor and enforce safe work practices for wind plant repairs, maintenance, and balance of plant activities.
• Inspect completed repairs and scheduled maintenance for quality assurance.
• Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on company-owned equipment.
• Perform and oversee mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, replacement, and switchyard/sub-station maintenance.
• Lead crews with minimal supervision and assist in training lower-level O&M personnel.
• Maintain documentation of work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting; update manuals and work instructions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree (electrical or technical) and 2+ years turbine experience, or 5+ years wind turbine experience required.
• 1+ years of independent turbine troubleshooting experience; able to troubleshoot turbines without assistance.
• Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet and work in adverse weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record; able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color wires.
• Must be able to work without visa sponsorship: Clearway will not sponsor nonimmigrant visas (H-1B, TN, E-3, etc.).
