TL;DR

Costs Negotiator (Legal): Managing a personal caseload of legal costs within the Industrial Disease team with an accent on strategic settlement negotiation and litigation support. Focus on preparing Points of Dispute, conducting telephone negotiations, and providing advocacy in court to deliver optimal results for insurance clients.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Bolton, Birmingham, or Liverpool (Hybrid)

What you will do

  • Manage an end-to-end caseload, developing effective costs strategies and settlement parameters.
  • Prepare Points of Dispute and assess replies to opposing claims.
  • Lead telephone negotiations to secure favorable settlements for clients.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, and conferences, including conducting advocacy in court.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with clients regarding case progress.
  • Support and mentor junior team members through task delegation and guidance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 months of experience as a Costs Negotiator managing an independent caseload.
  • Solid understanding of the detailed assessment process and Points of Dispute.
  • Proven experience in costs law, insurance litigation, and legal processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
  • Relevant qualification such as a Degree, LPC, or ALCD.
