Senior Database Engineer II

TL;DR

Senior Database Engineer II (PostgreSQL/MariaDB): Design and implement product and process solutions while improving application performance and stability with an accent on resilient database operations, SQL performance tuning, and replication/failover reliability. Focus on building and automating PostgreSQL/MariaDB workflows, developing stored procedures and database processes, and supporting OLTP/OLAP processing in a microservice architecture.

What you will do

• Collaborate with stakeholders to set priorities and drive database-related implementation.
• Ensure database systems meet performance, availability, scalability, quality, and security requirements.
• Design and implement resilient, performant database processes and solutions.
• Develop custom stored procedures, views, and user-defined functions; debug and optimize SQL code.
• Support Tier2 database requests (bug fixes, production data manipulation, feature testing) and handle on-call duties for critical DB alerts.
• Research and adopt innovative technologies; maintain operational runbooks and automate deployment/maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL databases.
• Advanced experience with MariaDB administration and optimization.
• Extensive knowledge of Pgpool-II for query load balancing, failover management, and connection routing between primary and standby nodes.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL replication, performance tuning, and maintenance operations.
• Experience automating database deployment and maintenance tasks using shell scripts and infrastructure automation tools.
• Ability to work in a microservice architecture with separate data sources per microservice.

Nice to have

• Experience designing and implementing large-scale enterprise/Internet-scale database systems.
• Experience with distributed database ecosystems and NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka.
• Experience scaling databases on cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and familiarity with sharded, multi-tenant databases.
• Experience with SQL Server 2012+ and PostgreSQL v9+.
