Design Release Engineer (Automotive)

TL;DR

Location: Hybrid; must be based in or commute to Warren, Michigan (at least 3 days onsite). No relocation assistance provided.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and validation of complex instrument panel and floor console subsystems.
• Manage CAD development and package integration through suppliers and internal designers.
• Perform design evaluations using DFMEA, PFMEA, and Interface Control Documents to develop robust solutions.
• Collaborate with CAE teams, including Safety Performance, to validate designs and drive data-based decisions.
• Assess designs for manufacturability, including injection molding, vibration welding, and foam-in-place processes.
• Oversee the product development lifecycle from early definition through launch and production.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials, or a related Engineering field.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in instrument panel, floor console, and decorative trim development.
• Expertise in injection molded trim, foam-in-place, thermoformed skins, and cut-and-sew wrapping.
• Design for Six Sigma Green Belt required.
• Proficiency with CAD workflows and tools such as VisMockup, NX, or UniGraphics.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Design for Six Sigma Black Belt.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or PMI certification.
