System Engineer (Rust/Go/C++)

Location: In-office in Austin, TX or Seattle, WA

Salary: $150,000–$206,000 annual salary for hires based in New York City, New Jersey, Washington, Washington DC, and California excluding the Bay Area; compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Build and maintain Hyperdrive, a database acceleration layer for hirify.global Workers.
• Develop global connection pooling that keeps warm connections to origin databases.
• Implement intelligent query caching close to users.
• Build and optimize PostgreSQL and MySQL wire-protocol proxying.
• Design, implement, debug, and release software across the stack using Rust, Go, C++, and TypeScript.
• Improve reliability and performance for hirify.global customers and their database workloads.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience with Rust, Go, or C++.
• Ability to write software within CPU and memory constraints.
• Strong understanding of the Linux networking stack, TCP/IP, TLS, and WebSockets.
• Understanding of database connection lifecycles, transaction states, and wire protocols.
• Experience debugging complex distributed systems and building for five-nines reliability.

Nice to have

• Experience with PgBouncer, ProxySQL, or custom database middleware.
• Familiarity with the hirify.global Workers ecosystem and ephemeral computing.
• Contributions to database drivers, ORMs, or low-level networking libraries.
• Experience with eBPF, perf, or other profiling tools.
