Principal Software Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Hybrid, based in the Boulder, Colorado or Austin, Texas office

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 base salary annually, plus annual bonus and equity

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for a core software platform area and guide project execution and technical direction.
• Design architecture for systems that orchestrate quantum computing workloads, interface with hardware control and calibration systems, and manage experimental data.
• Rewrite and productionize prototype code from Quantum Engineers into reliable, tested, and maintainable services.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for code quality, design, documentation, and engineering practices.
• Deploy, monitor, and support the production platform through a team on-call rotation.
• Partner with infrastructure engineers to improve CI/CD pipelines and represent engineering work with customers, partners, and the broader technical community.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant technical achievements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience designing and implementing architecture-level features in complex systems.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software development practices, plus willingness to learn quantum mechanics and related concepts.

Nice to have

• Experience with C++ or Rust, cloud infrastructure, Terraform, TypeScript/React, or containerization.
• Strong organization and project management skills.
• Experience working at both a large technology company and a startup.
