Staff Software Engineer (SDK), Developer Tools (Quantum Computing)

Location: Onsite or hybrid in Bothell, Washington, United States. Travel approximately once per quarter. U.S. Person status or applicable export-control authorization may be required to access certain technology and government-contract work.

Base salary: $174,520–$228,492 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Define the technical strategy and roadmap for public-facing quantum SDKs and integrations with Qiskit, Cirq, and PennyLane.
• Productize and open-source internal quantum developer tools, including packaging, licensing, release processes, and contribution workflows.
• Architect programming paradigms, abstractions, and interfaces for quantum circuit construction, compilation, simulation, and hardware execution.
• Manage public repositories, documentation, examples, tutorials, quickstarts, and community contribution processes.
• Collaborate with Applications, Compiler, and Engineering teams to introduce capabilities such as error mitigation and advanced optimization.
• Set engineering standards for API design, architecture, testing, CI/CD, validation, and mentorship.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership or architecture work.
• 7+ years designing and maintaining public-facing SDKs or developer libraries with a strong focus on API design and developer experience.
• Deep expertise in Python and large-scale developer-facing software systems.
• Experience managing or contributing to open-source projects with external contributors, including release management and contribution governance.
• Experience delivering complex cross-functional engineering projects and mentoring engineers across levels.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and developer guides.

Nice to have

• Master's or PhD in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field focused on quantum computing or programming language design.
• Expertise in quantum computing, quantum circuits, optimization, and compiler fundamentals.
• System-level programming experience with C++ or Rust.
• Contributions to quantum open-source projects such as Qiskit, PennyLane, or Cirq.
• Experience with quantum error mitigation, error correction, compilers, circuit optimization, or domain-specific API design.
