HV Substation SCADA & Metering Engineer (Renewable Energy)

Location: US, Louisville, Colorado

Salary: $113,000–$141,525 per year, plus annual bonus.

What you will do

• Review, comment on, and approve SCADA system designs, communication architectures, I/O schematics, point assignments, device configurations, and integration plans.
• Support on-site commissioning and point-to-point testing of high-voltage substation SCADA systems.
• Review electrical drawings, interpret signal lists, and develop SCADA graphics.
• Coordinate metering schemes for solar, BESS, and wind power plants in line with interconnection and power purchase agreement requirements.
• Coordinate with engineering, SCADA, OT, development, commercial, interconnection, accounting, and performance engineering teams.
• Perform meter-data quality checks and help create accurate generation dashboards and reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in utilities or power system SCADA.
• Working knowledge of SCADA systems, DNP3, Ethernet, IP networks, serial communications, TCP/IP, MODBUS, OPC/UA, and SEL protocols.
• Experience with field-level system integration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and integration of RTACs, relays, meters, inverters, trackers, met stations, BESS devices, and remote RTUs.
• Understanding of revenue and control metering, meter-data analysis, MV90 schemes, and SCADA telemetry and control requirements across US markets and ISOs.
• Willingness to travel to support the commissioning team, with strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with GE, EATON, SEL, Ignition, IEC 61850, SMP Tools, AcSELerator Quickset, RTAC, Wireshark, and ASE2000.
• Experience with Cisco, Moxa, Hirschmann, and SEL LAN hardware.
• Familiarity with Itron MV90xi, energy management systems, Python, GIS, and data visualization tools.
• High-voltage utility and renewable energy experience.
• Knowledge of DOE metering standards, energy standards, building codes, and related regulations.
