TL;DR
Applied Scientist (AI): Developing next-generation mineral exploration instruments and data acquisition systems, then building models to predict ore-grade mineralization in 2D and 3D with an accent on uncertainty quantification and physics/statistics-driven scientific computing. Location: Remote (candidates can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada); 10–20% travel required; must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
Salary: $125,000–$235,000 (US salary range)

What you will do
- Design, develop, and deploy mineral exploration data collection instruments and methods.
- Simulate, characterize, and calibrate sensor performance; design data acquisition systems and work with partners to build hardware.
- Build and extend proprietary exploration software tools and data systems.
- Curate and integrate geospectral, geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic datasets; create worldwide datasets with uncertainty tracking.
- Develop models and apply scientific computing, statistical, and physics-based methods to predict ore-grade mineralization in 2D/3D.
- Implement statistically rigorous spatially aware clustering, anomaly detection, and other analysis methods; present results to external partners and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to quickly absorb and synthesize complex information with a track record of high intellectual rigor.
- Experience developing complex equipment with cross-disciplinary teams and vendors.
- Strong technical background in physical measurement and data analysis systems (e.g., optics, electromagnetism, radiation, gravity).
- Extensive experience with Python data science packages and general software engineering practices; collaborative development with git and testing (unit/integration) plus CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with SQL and familiarity with non-relational databases; experience with cloud computing resources.
- Ability to dive deep on novel, challenging problems applying ML to mineral exploration using limited, disparate, noisy data; experience deploying sensors in the field.
