R&D Software Engineer (Mainframe)

Location: Plano, Texas, USA

Salary: USD 101,000–162,000 annually, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Analyze business requirements and write high-quality, testable software within an Agile team.
• Build, test, maintain, and support mainframe database solutions for the Mainframe IDMS product.
• Participate in software design, code reviews, iteration planning, refinement, and sprint reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams, including customer interactions for support, demonstrations, and feedback.
• Improve development efficiency, security, and product quality through engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related software field with 5+ years of mainframe software development experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of related experience.
• Extensive software development experience with IBM Assembler on z/OS systems.
• Experience with source code management tools such as Endevor and GitHub.
• Experience with Agile software development and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to learn new technologies and languages and contribute to continuous innovation.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

Nice to have

• SQL experience with mainframe databases such as IDMS, Datacom, or DB2.
• Knowledge of system dumps, TSO/ISPF, and debugging tools such as XDC.
• Experience with Metal C, COBOL, REXX, JCL, C, or C+.
• Familiarity with Jira, Rally, QA practices, test automation, CI/CD, and DevOps concepts.
