Engineering Designer - Instrument Panel and Interior Components (Automotive)

TL;DR

Engineering Designer (Automotive): Creating detailed interior components and system-level designs for vehicles with an accent on functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal. Focus on integrating complex interior subsystems, resolving packaging challenges, and ensuring manufacturability using advanced NX CAD modeling.

Location: Hybrid (Warren, Michigan). Must be on-site at least three days per week. Eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Develop highly integrated subsystems to resolve packaging challenges while maintaining design best practices.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Studio Styling, and Release Engineering to integrate engineering criteria for interior components.
• Apply DFSS and design-thinking to evaluate design alternatives based on cost, mass, timing, and assembly.
• Integrate global and regional safety requirements into interior architectures to exceed industry standards.
• Create and maintain NX models for surface guidance and space claims.
• Benchmark competitive interiors to ensure packaging and component performance meet industry standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a related engineering area.
• B.S. in Engineering or a related field.
• Advanced NX CAD modeling skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Teamcenter and TcVis.
• Strong understanding of automotive design, manufacturing, and assembly principles.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to Warren, Michigan.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Engineering or related field.
• Experience with Instrument Panel or Floor Console subsystems.
• Knowledge and use of CAE tools.
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Certification.
