Product Designer: Design Systems (12 month FTC) (AI) (Design Systems/Figma): Evolving Origami, the Financial Times design system, across reusable components, patterns, foundations and libraries for web and mobile experiences with an accent on accessibility, cross-platform consistency and design tokens. Focus on designing scalable system solutions, documenting variants and usage guidance, collaborating with engineers, and applying AI-assisted approaches to component development and documentation.
Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid work with staff onsite 50% of the time

What you will do
- Design and evolve reusable components, patterns, foundations and libraries within the Origami design system.
- Contribute to coherent system solutions across iOS, Android and web.
- Frame problems, validate solutions, conduct audits and incorporate product-team feedback.
- Create documentation and specifications in Figma, Zeroheight and related tooling, including variants, edge cases and usage guidance.
- Collaborate with engineers on feasible, scalable implementations and the use of design tokens across Figma and production code.
- Explore AI-assisted approaches to prototyping, component development and documentation workflows.
Requirements
- Portfolio demonstrating strong product and systems thinking with meaningful impact.
- Strong product design craft across interaction design, visual design and prototyping.
- Experience with Figma, including component libraries, variables, tokens and prototyping.
- Experience designing or contributing to reusable components, patterns or guidance for digital products across web and mobile.
- Practical understanding of accessibility standards, HTML, CSS and accessible semantic markup.
- Experience collaborating with engineers and cross-functional product, editorial and brand teams.
Nice to have
- Experience using or exploring AI-assisted design or development tools.
- Interest in emerging tooling and practical AI applications for improving speed, quality and consistency.
