Manufacturing Engineer – Module Frames (Steel Manufacturing)

Location: Huangpu, Shanghai, China; the role includes approximately 75% international and domestic travel and occasional flexible scheduling for global teams.

What you will do

• Drive concurrent engineering, DFM/DFMA, manufacturability reviews, and design-release decisions for steel module frames and assemblies.
• Launch, commission, and ramp up equipment at domestic and international supplier facilities.
• Lead manufacturing technology development for complex roll forming and related processes, including stamping, welding, laser cutting, machining, coating, assembly, testing, and automation.
• Plan prototype builds, supplier trials, factory validations, readiness audits, and corrective-action plans.
• Lead value engineering and cost-reduction initiatives through design alternatives, tooling changes, yield improvements, and cycle-time reduction.
• Review and implement engineering changes in the PLM system while providing technical escalation and root-cause support for supplier and field issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering or industrialization experience.
• Extensive experience with roll-formed steel components, steel machinery, fabrication processes, and factory equipment or CAPEX projects.
• At least 5 years of experience serving large OEM customers in renewable energy, automotive, consumer, or industrial manufacturing.
• Experience with supplier-facing process readiness, tooling readiness, validation builds, factory troubleshooting, and global cross-functional teams.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and collaborate on CAD manufacturability reviews using SolidWorks or equivalent, plus experience with PLM-based engineering change management.
• Excellent written and spoken English, structured problem-solving skills, negotiation ability, and willingness to travel extensively.

Nice to have

• Solar tracker experience.
• SSGB, PMP, Lean Manufacturing, Journeyman, or other industry certifications.
• Experience with domestic and offshore Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.
• Experience developing new processes and adding rigor to released processes.
