Chief Operating Officer (Biotechnology)

Location: Rockville, Maryland, USA; traditional office environment with visits to laboratory and manufacturing facilities and occasional business travel.

Annual base salary: $379,000–$621,900, with potential discretionary or non-discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop organizational goals, strategic plans, and actionable operating roadmaps.
• Lead product development and commercialization, research and engineering, operations and manufacturing, supply chain and distribution, and customer support.
• Establish operational policies, controls, KPIs, standardized workflows, and continuous-improvement practices.
• Manage operational budgets, resource allocation, cost controls, business cases, and ROI analyses with the CFO.
• Build and lead high-performing teams, set performance expectations, and coach senior leaders.
• Represent the company to partners and investors and conduct strategic reviews to manage risks and adjust plans.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in business administration, life sciences, engineering, or a related field.
• At least 15 years of progressive operational-management experience, including at least five years in a VP or C-suite leadership role with multi-unit responsibility.
• Experience managing operations in FDA-regulated or GMP environments.
• Proven expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, P&L management, business operations, change management, and executive leadership.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with ERP systems, project-management platforms, and business-intelligence tools.
• Ability to work in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments and travel outside standard working hours, including occasional international overnight travel.
