Software Engineer II (Identity & Access Management)

Location: United States; required to work in the office 5 days a week. The role may require up to 10% travel for onboarding, client or partner work, team meetings, and industry events.

What you will do

• Design, implement, roll out, and monitor authentication and authorization capabilities including login, MFA, SSO, SCIM, sessions, and role and permission enforcement.
• Extract authentication and authorization paths from the legacy monolith into dedicated microservices, including token verification, API key services, and internal service authentication.
• Build shared SDKs and contracts for OAuth, machine authentication, and organization-scoped authorization.
• Support organization-scoped identity, multi-account SSO, and flexible organization and account models.
• Partner with Security, Compliance, Platform Integrity, and Organizations & Accounts on account protection and secure-by-default patterns.
• Improve service reliability and performance through observability, production debugging, on-call participation, incident reviews, and platform standards.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend or full-stack services.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience with web services or APIs backed by relational databases or caches such as MySQL, Postgres, or Redis.
• Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts including sessions, tokens, OAuth, SSO, MFA, RBAC, and permissions.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows, including code review, testing, deployments, and production support.
• Ability to reason about data models, API design, concurrency, failure modes, and production debugging.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating with identity providers and protocols such as SAML, OIDC, enterprise SSO, SCIM, OAuth, or API key management.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Kong, API gateways, or service meshes.
• Background in high-scale distributed systems, performance-sensitive services, or observability tools such as Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.
• Experience with Organizations & Accounts or Platform Anti-Abuse domains.
