Senior Systems Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA; onsite role

Salary: $129,600–$220,300 annually

What you will do

• Architect, design, and evolve scalable backend infrastructure for big data analytics, distributed storage, and storage systems.
• Develop server-side components for real-time data processing, system integration, and API services.
• Design and deliver microservices-based platforms across Linux and Windows environments.
• Optimize performance and memory efficiency for high-throughput, low-latency applications using multithreaded and concurrent programming.
• Integrate databases, messaging systems, and external APIs while defining long-term technical strategy with product and engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and promote code quality, testing, and maintainability across the organization.

Requirements

• Extensive C++ experience with object-oriented design, system-level programming, and software architecture.
• Experience building and scaling real-time data processing engines, networked or socket-based services, microservices, or distributed systems.
• Strong familiarity with Windows and Linux/Unix environments and command-line tooling.
• Expertise in memory management, performance profiling, debugging, and system optimization.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines in production environments.
• Doctorate with 3 years, master's degree with 6 years, or bachelor's degree with 8 years of related work experience; demonstrated mentoring and technical leadership experience.
