Safety Director (Safety and Environmental Health) Long Island, NY

Location: Edgewood and Brentwood, New York, United States. Onsite work in office and production/manufacturing environments. Day shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional travel between Edgewood campus locations and support for other U.S. sites. Occasional travel up to 10%; on-call support may include 24x7 coverage, with evening or weekend work as needed.

Salary: $135,000–$145,000 annual, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead site safety committees and partner with leaders to identify hazards, prioritize corrective actions, and improve safety performance.
• Direct responses to workplace emergencies, accidents, injuries, and near-misses; investigate incidents and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Conduct safety and environmental health audits of buildings, equipment, tools, and work conditions.
• Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures, written programs, and regulatory compliance processes.
• Manage environmental permits, reporting, recordkeeping, spills, hazardous waste, and production by-products with Facilities.
• Lead the safety software platform, improve reporting and data collection, standardize corporate safety programs, and support workers’ compensation and ergonomic initiatives.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education and 5+ years of related safety experience, including safety training development and delivery.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable local and state safety and health regulations.
• Direct safety experience in a general industry or manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships across diverse teams and leadership levels and provide on-call support as required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in safety, industrial hygiene, risk management, environmental health science, engineering, business management, or a related field.
• Certified Safety Professional or Associate Safety Professional certification from BCSP.
• 8+ years of manufacturing experience and completion of the OSHA 30-Hour General Industry course.
• First Aid, CPR, and emergency medical response training or certification.
