Design Manager (Engineering)

Location: Birmingham or Manchester, UK; hybrid working

What you will do

• Manage the delivery of allocated civil engineering design work packages for high-speed rail and other infrastructure projects.
• Establish project plans, monitor programmes and budgets, manage resources, and control changes to scope, fees, and schedules.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, construction teams, procurement teams, clients, contract partners, and stakeholders.
• Apply project controls, risk assessment, HAZOP analysis, environmental requirements, and relevant health and safety legislation.
• Prepare progress reports, chair design progress meetings, support tender preparation and contractor appointments, and maintain design management documentation.
• Supervise APMs, graduates, and apprentices while supporting the Engineering Manager and Project Manager.

Requirements

• Degree in a relevant discipline.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure projects and managing design delivery to programme and budget.
• Broad design engineering experience on infrastructure projects.
• Good understanding of CDM Regulations and experience with NEC3 contracts.
• Experience with ProjectWise and Bentley Systems.
• Excellent communication skills and professional institution membership.
