TL;DR

Nanophotonics Engineer (AR): Developing advanced optical structures and architectures for next-generation augmented reality waveguides with an accent on nanophotonics design, simulation, and high-volume manufacturing. Focus on integrating physical measurements into optical models, optimizing waveguide performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring AR hardware to production.

Location: Must work in the Abingdon office 4+ days per week

What you will do

  • Develop new optical structures and architectures to enhance AR waveguide performance.
  • Utilize in-house optical design tools for the development of new AR displays.
  • Contribute to the development of novel optical design software for efficient system analysis.
  • Incorporate physical measurement data (SEM, AFM) into optical models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to bring new designs to manufacture.
  • Support the development of high-volume, low-cost AR waveguide designs.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work onsite in Abingdon 4+ days per week.
  • PhD in mathematics, physics, or engineering, or 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in physics-based design and optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python for computation and optimization.
  • Experience using scripting to interface with simulation tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of physical/diffractive optics modelling (FDTD, RCWA/FMM).
  • Experience with optical raytracing algorithms and polarization analysis.
  • Background in optical metrology and manufacturing techniques (nanoimprint lithography, photolithography).
  • Experience contributing to collaborative codebases using Git.
  • Experience using AI coding tools.
