What you will do

• Define and communicate a "north star" for a scalable, performant backend architecture capable of handling complex business logic.
• Guide the team through complex technical challenges, including the incremental rewriting of large-scale custom middleware.
• Partner with the Product Lead to balance the roadmap between mission-critical business features and technical debt reduction.
• Mentor and coach Backend Engineers to simplify system complexity and advance their professional growth.
• Lead the hiring and onboarding of engineering talent specifically for legacy-to-modern transitions.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for the unit regarding backend architecture, API schemas, and integration contracts.

Requirements

• Hands-on and recent experience with Laravel.
• Proven experience developing synchronous APIs.
• Experience working with message queue systems such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or equivalents.
• Proficiency with AWS, Terraform, MySQL, and Redis.
• Ability to take end-to-end ownership of automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Must be based in or able to work from Hamburg, Germany.
