Director, Backend Engineering - Brokerage

Salary: $275,000 - $300,000 USD

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance back-end systems, APIs, and databases for web and mobile applications.
• Architect scalable, secure, and efficient server-side solutions that meet fintech standards and handle high transaction volumes.
• Collaborate with front-end, product, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of features and services.
• Implement code quality practices, testing, and deployment workflows (including code reviews and automated testing frameworks).
• Drive technical excellence through continuous learning and collaboration.
• Champion the thoughtful adoption of AI and use AI tools (e.g., generative AI and automation platforms) to improve productivity and decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years of back-end development experience, including at least 2 years in a senior role.
• Experience from a retail brokerage.
• Hands-on development with Node, Express, TypeScript, and related frameworks such as Nest.js to build REST APIs and services.
• Strong SQL experience; NoSQL exposure is a plus.
• Experience with microservices and event-based architecture; familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

Nice to have

• Experience with caching and messaging queues such as Kafka.
• Experience using Postman and Git/Bitbucket.
• Startup experience (taking a product from zero to one).
