Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Fintech)

Location: Remote (Must be based in Canada)

Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Design and expand the platform backbone to scale to hundreds of thousands of global merchants.
• Build the brand new lifecycle-orchestrator service to modernize the codebase and improve system availability.
• Lead cross-team projects and align scopes of work with other engineering teams.
• Mentor other engineers and partner with leadership to drive the team's long-term technical vision.
• Execute technical strategies for broad and complex requirements to solve large open-ended problems.
• Utilize agentic development tools like Claude Code to automate parts of the development process.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a backend software engineer.
• Strong understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in API design (HTTP and RPC), state machines, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with AWS, gRPC, Snowflake, Kotlin, Python, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Must be based in Canada.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically for asynchronous documentation (tech specs, ADRs).

Nice to have

• Prior experience with monitoring and alerting systems such as Sentry, Rollbar, Chronosphere, or Kibana.
