Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Backend (US - Remote or Calgary) (Go/Python)

Location: Remote from the United States or Alberta, Canada; a non-mandatory office is available in Calgary

Salary: $180,000–$210,000 USD per year or $175,000–$205,000 CAD per year

What you will do

• Design, ship, and operate distributed microservices in Go and Python.
• Build real-time event-streaming and data-processing pipelines with Kafka.
• Design performant APIs across REST, GraphQL, and gRPC.
• Develop efficient Postgres schemas, optimize queries, and manage ORM data paths and migrations.
• Provision and scale AWS and GCP infrastructure using Terraform and GitHub Actions.
• Improve reliability, latency, observability, and production monitoring with Datadog while owning systems end-to-end.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production.
• Deep experience with Go and Python, including concurrent and high-performance systems.
• Strong fundamentals in Postgres, relational ORMs, query optimization, and schema migration strategies.
• Experience with Kafka-based event-driven architectures and production API design.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and Datadog observability tooling.
• Ability to own a technical domain with light supervision, write design documents, lead code reviews, and support shipped services on call.
