TL;DR

Sr Transmission Assets Engineer (Engineering): Managing transmission facility maintenance standards and compliance for the high-voltage power grid with an accent on regulatory adherence and asset reliability. Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to the USA (Hybrid or local remote schedule available).

Salary: $116,925–$163,695 annually.

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) manages the high-voltage power grid for 30 million Californians, ensuring reliable electricity delivery and impartial market access.

What you will do

  • Enforce ISO Transmission Maintenance Standards and conduct maintenance reviews of PTO records and facilities.
  • Review and approve equipment rating entries for the Transmission Register.
  • Provide substation expertise for the Transmission Planning Process Phase III competitive solicitation.
  • Partner with Grid Operations and Regional Transmission Engineering to resolve facility-related issues.
  • Ensure compliance with FERC, NERC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor team members and identify improvements to department practices and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in electrical power systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in high-voltage transmission facility equipment and maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Transmission Control Agreement, ISO Tariff, and maintenance policies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Access, Excel).
  • Ability to travel within the ISO footprint 3–7 times per year for equipment inspections.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.

Nice to have

  • California Professional Engineering license.
  • Experience with California or WECC transmission grids.
  • Experience with protective relaying systems and transmission event analysis.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping software.
