Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid; candidates must be located in Farmington Hills/Metro Detroit, Michigan; Frisco, Texas; or Cincinnati, Ohio.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a team building production AI agents.
• Set engineering standards for agent patterns, tool integration, testing, code quality, observability, and reviews.
• Architect shared agent-platform services and protocols, including agent-to-agent messaging and tool servers.
• Write code, prototype difficult solutions, and pair with engineers on complex system challenges.
• Design quality, safety, evaluation, and governance practices for accurate, cost-efficient, and controlled agent behavior.
• Translate the platform vision into an executable roadmap and communicate architecture and progress to engineering and product leadership.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience technically driving engineering teams through mentoring, standards-setting, and delivery of complex systems.
• Experience building agentic or multi-step automated systems, including tool orchestration, LLM reasoning loops, or agent frameworks.
• Experience designing for non-deterministic behavior, edge cases, and failure, with testing and observability to detect issues.
• Immigration sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience building LLM safety, evaluation, or governance systems end-to-end.
• Retrieval or hybrid search over enterprise knowledge.
• Enterprise-scale platform engineering or developer tooling experience.
• Terraform and infrastructure-as-code experience.
• Open-source contributions on GitHub.
