Engineering Group Manager (Automotive)

TL;DR

Engineering Group Manager (Automotive): Leading the engineering strategy and execution for GM’s rear seat structures portfolio with an accent on structural safety, quality, and manufacturability. Focus on overseeing the full product lifecycle from concept to production launch and developing a high-performing technical team.

Location: Hybrid; Must be based in Warren, Michigan (at least 3 days per week on-site). This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Lead the Seat Structures team in developing and executing solutions across multiple vehicle programs.
• Oversee engineering execution from concept through production launch, including requirements definition and design reviews.
• Drive alignment between safety, performance, quality, timing, cost, mass, and manufacturability.
• Partner with cross-functional teams such as Safety, Validation, Purchasing, and Manufacturing.
• Coach and develop technical talent, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Ensure adherence to robust engineering processes, including DFMEA discipline and DVP&R planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant progressive experience in automotive product engineering, specifically in seating or structures.
• Demonstrated people leadership experience managing technical teams and developing talent.
• Strong understanding of product development from concept through launch.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

• Advanced degree in engineering or business.
• Deep experience with structural performance, crashworthiness, and durability.
• Experience working with global cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
• Knowledge of GM-specific product development processes and release practices.
