Principal Platform Architect (Java/AI): Shaping the evolution of a scaling ecommerce platform and driving AI-enabled capabilities across the engineering organization with an accent on service boundaries, integration patterns, and AI-augmented workflows. Focus on building agent orchestration pipelines, enhancing engineering productivity via AI, and establishing cross-team architectural standards.

Location: Must be based in the European Economic Area (EEA). This role is non-U.S. only. Requires a minimum 4 hours of daily overlap with New York (ET).

What you will do

• Own platform architecture and AI enablement, defining service boundaries and shared infrastructure standards.
• Lead the design of platform services, including APIs, data contracts, and async messaging patterns.
• Implement AI-augmented workflows, such as agent orchestration pipelines and memory management strategies.
• Serve as the primary architectural authority for platform-level technical decisions.
• Manage and mentor a small platform team of two engineers.
• Ensure systems are production-ready, scalable, and fault-tolerant.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3–4 years in a principal or staff architecture role.
• Deep expertise in Java (modern JVM, concurrency) and experience with Micronaut or Spring Boot.
• Strong architectural breadth in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and AWS cloud-native patterns.
• Hands-on experience building AI-powered systems using LLMs and agent orchestration frameworks.
• Proficiency in data modeling, Kafka, and caching strategies at scale.
• Fluent English communication skills for leading technical conversations and writing design proposals.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust.
• Familiarity with GraalVM native images and JVM profiling.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and production EKS environments.
• Russian language proficiency.
