Underwriting Specialist/Executive Underwriter (Inland Marine)

Location: Chicago, IL, United States; travel within the Midwest region is required. US work authorization is required. Visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

Salary: $104,480–$143,660 per year for the Underwriting Specialist position, or $116,080–$159,610 per year for the Executive Underwriter position, plus potential bonuses.

What you will do

• Review, analyze, accept, and decline inland marine risks to support profitable underwriting.
• Underwrite new business and renewals, including exposure analysis, pricing, terms, conditions, and account servicing.
• Use underwriting tools, loss rating, and actuarial modeling techniques to determine classifications, rates, and premiums.
• Monitor producers, portfolio performance, and profitability, recommending corrective action when needed.
• Build relationships with agents, brokers, regional stakeholders, and other hirify.global product teams.
• Mentor less experienced underwriters, participate in audits and underwriting meetings, and travel within the Midwest.

Requirements

• US work authorization required; visa sponsorship is not available.
• 6+ years of current experience underwriting profitable admitted inland marine or related business.
• Bachelor’s degree and relevant industry designations, or equivalent outstanding experience.
• Knowledge of account pricing using loss rating and actuarial modeling tools and techniques.
• Strong technical, analytical, organizational, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and underwriting systems.
