Associate Underwriter (Marine)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid work arrangement. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future. Expected travel is required.

Salary: $65,000–$80,000 per year, subject to skills, experience, and applicable geographic differential.

What you will do

• Underwrite and grow a profitable Marine and Energy book of business.
• Market and produce accounts while analyzing exposures, pricing risks, and selecting appropriate policy forms.
• Set terms and conditions within reinsurance treaty parameters.
• Monitor and control exposure aggregations in coordination with underwriters worldwide.
• Build relationships with marine brokers across the East Coast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, and worldwide marine market.
• Attend industry conferences and training, complete introductory courses through the American Institute of Marine Underwriters, and support brokerage operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 1 year of experience in the insurance industry.
• Ability to analyze risks, price accounts, and understand policy forms and reinsurance guidelines.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, including collaboration with the U.S. Marine Team in New York.
• Disciplined and conservative approach to maintaining underwriting quality and profitability.
• U.S. work authorization for any employer; sponsorship is not available.

• Marine insurance experience.
• Knowledge of Marine and Energy exposures, lines of business, policy forms, and pricing.
