Head of Software Architecture (C++)

What you will do

• Lead and govern architectural workstreams across command and control, perception, autonomy, embedded software, and systems engineering.
• Act as the software systems engineer by defining the V-Model process, leading requirements engineering, and directing verification and validation planning.
• Align hardware and software stakeholders around common architectural solutions, interfaces, and collaboration patterns.
• Drive safety-by-design practices, Modern C++ and MISRA guidance, operational reliability, and interoperability across the software ecosystem.
• Lead compliance, QA, V&V, and audit documentation for standards including IEC 61508, ISO 27001, AQAP, STANAGs, and DEFSTAN.
• Mentor senior engineers and architects, lead the Software Architecture community of practice, and directly manage the V&V and QA team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in principal, staff-plus, or equivalent software architecture roles.
• Experience leading architecture across multiple engineering teams and influencing without direct authority.
• Background in aerospace, defence, robotics, or complex hardware/software systems.
• Strong systems thinking and communication skills across technical domains.
• Experience with C++, safety-critical systems, software interfaces, and cross-domain data flows.
• Eligibility to obtain appropriate security clearance is required.
