TL;DR

Engineering Specialist III (Manufacturing): Supporting Seagate’s thin-film head manufacturing by controlling processes and evaluating tool performance with an accent on statistical reasoning and data-driven troubleshooting. Focus on optimizing wafer datasets, performing root-cause analysis on materials deviations, and ensuring high-quality recording head production.

Location: Bloomington, MN, US. Must be able to work a night shift schedule of 6:30 p.m. CST – 6:30 a.m. CST, Friday through Sunday and every other Thursday.

Salary: $24.04 - $34.38/hr

What you will do

  • Evaluate tool and wafer datasets using statistical reasoning, SPC charts, and distributions to maintain process stability.
  • Perform data-driven troubleshooting using cause/effect reasoning and logic trees to isolate suspect parameters.
  • Execute Materials Deviation Authorization (MDA) and conduct root-cause analysis on non-conforming wafers.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify bottlenecks and implement cycle-time enhancements.
  • Train new technicians and improve process engineering documentation for better knowledge transfer.
  • Support engineering staff with trials, experiments, and manual runs as the primary technical observer.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in thin-film wafer manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in quantitative reasoning and mathematical concepts for data analysis.
  • Ability to extract and interpret tool data logs using Excel, JMP, or internal platforms.
  • Must be able to work a night shift schedule: 6:30 p.m. CST – 6:30 a.m. CST, Friday through Sunday and every other Thursday.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective documentation and handoffs.

Nice to have

  • AA/AAS degree or comparable experience with wafer production equipment.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving in STEM environments.
  • Capability to perform first-level analytical investigations before escalation.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Minitab.
