Underwriter

TL;DR

Underwriter: Evaluating and classifying individual life insurance applications with an accent on risk assessment, medical impairment analysis, and regulatory compliance. Focus on making informed, independent decisions to maintain equitable mortality while supporting the organization's mission.

Location: Must be based in the United States. This is a hybrid role.

Salary: $70,500–$120,000 (range applicable for work performed in Connecticut).

What you will do

• Appraise and classify applications for new insurance, plan changes, and reinstatements.
• Determine extra premiums for medical impairments and special hazards.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and policies to field force and internal departments.
• Ensure equitable mortality by eliminating adverse selection.
• Handle routine inquiries regarding underwriting practices and procedures.

Requirements

• Authorization to work in the United States is required (no visa sponsorship).
• Bachelor's degree (BS or BA).
• Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy.
• Understanding of federal and state insurance regulations.
• 2-5 years of individual life underwriting experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
