Underwriter, Commercial Surety

Location: Remote USA; US work authorization required. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $74,320–$102,190 annually, with 20% bonus potential.

What you will do

• Gather, analyze, price, quote, and underwrite new and renewal commercial surety bonds.
• Evaluate applicant financial condition, credit history, experience, character, and other risks while following the underwriting philosophy.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with independent agents, brokers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
• Negotiate terms and conditions, service accounts, and decline or cancel coverage when appropriate.
• Contribute to underwriting and processing systems, standardization, and efficiency improvements.
• Mentor team members and attend occasional agent meetings, industry events, and overnight travel.

Requirements

• US work authorization required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
• At least 2 years of industry experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; a high school diploma is accepted with equivalent industry experience.
• Knowledge of commercial surety bonds, legal documents, indemnity agreements, statutes, bond forms, insurance laws, financial principles, and accounting.
• Ability to analyze applications, assess risk, make objective and subjective decisions, calculate premiums and commissions, and manage a high volume of bonds.
• Strong communication, negotiation, customer service, organizational, time-management, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
